Lower Colesterol Diet

In addition to the cholesterol that we get by eating food, the body makes its own cholesterol. So it is important that we dont get too much of it.

When you want or need a lower colesterol diet, it is recommended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to have a diet containing less meat, poultry, fish, milk products with higher fat and eggs. They indicate for cholesteril a daily value of 300mg.

Limit the intake of organ meats. For example 3 ounces of cooked chicken liver have about 540 mg of cholesterol. And use egg yolks in moderation, as 1 egg yolk has about 215 mg of cholesterol. Egg whites contain no cholesterol and can be used freely.

Foods with less cholesterol and less saturated fat will help lower your blood cholesterol levels, so do not eat too much food that is high in saturated fats.

It is therefore recommended to use fats and oils sparingly. Also read the Nutrition Facts Label on the food products, to help you choose foods lower in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol.

Choose low-fat milk products, lean meats, fish, poultry, beans, and peas to get essential nutrients without substantially increasing calorie and saturated fat intakes.

Eating more grain products, vegetables and fruit if you need to lower your cholesterol level.
